Thanks to the generosity of our community, for over 50 years Mental Health America of Greenville County has sponsored Operation Santa Claus, a holiday gift collection that brings a special touch of joy to the lives of those in our community living with mental illness.  The project provides gift packages to individuals who are in psychiatric hospitals, live in local community care homes, attend community mental health center day treatment programs, or who may not have anyone else to remember them during the holiday season.  The project provides men, women and children with items such as socks, knit gloves and caps, stationary, and personal care items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hair brushes and combs, lotion, shaving cream, and chap stick.  And of course no gift collection would be complete without stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, and candy.  Download Brochure Here

Last year we collected gifts for over 300 individuals and raised over 2,000 dollars for special requests. And with your continued support we can to do the same this year.  Mental illness does not discriminate and individuals can’t simply snap out of it.  Many times they need a helping a hand-a person who cares enough to do the unexpected.  We recognize that we are all living in tough economic times and much is uncertain.  But what is certain is that our survival is dependent upon our ability to work together-to do the unexpected in unanticipated times. We hope you will join us again in not only bringing a touch of joy to those impacted by mental illness but also in promoting positive mental health for all persons in our community.

Our goal is to collect gifts and $2,009 for special requests.  We are requesting your assistance in helping with this effort by sponsoring a gift collection drive in your church, family, civic group, or organization.  All gifts should be delivered to the MHAGC office no later than Monday, December 7th.  If delivery is a problem, we will arrange for your gifts to be picked up.  If you are collecting gifts for your organization, please include the name and address of your contact person.
